Hello fellow/aspiring pilots,

My name is Jordan. I'm 39 years old, and I'm thinking of getting my helicopter license for a few reasons.

1) Love for aviation and flying

2) career change. (currently in sales earning 65k a year sitting behind a desk getting bald and fat :) )

3) I want freedom (at least the feeling of freedom)

So, as stated I'm looking for a career change. I've thought about doing fixed wing in the past and have a few uncles that were flew for airlines. after talking with them I don't think that's a good fit for me as I have two young kids at home under the age of 6 and I would like to be home more than away. I'm not thinking of becoming a helicopter pilot to make more money either, although I have seen job postings that would have a good size jump in pay but I'll need the experience. So, I have a few questions for the community:

1). If you have your license and a job in the field what are some things you wish you had known before getting started?

2) After flight school, is it hard to find an entry level job that's not flying as an instructor? I've been told and have heard (YouTube) that being in instructor is a great way to get more hours as your are fine tuning those everyday skills. I love that, but I know I said I'm not in it for the money but taking a good 30k pay cut for a year is not really doable.

3) Once you have your hours (1500+ PIC) is it possible to take on small contracts around the world? I'd love to gain experience and fly many different helicopters.

4) what is your current job and how much do you love it?

Thank you in advanced,

Jordan
