helidave Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 can anybody recommend some good helicopter books? not textbooks or educational, maybe heli-related stories or anything interesting and fun to read. thanksdave Quote
klasmartin Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Chickenhawk is a very good book! The author, Robert Mason, has a sequel to that book called "Chickenhawk Back in the World: Life After Vietnam" haven't read it though. Also, I recall reading in one heli forum or another that there is a book out now about an R44 that flew around the world, anybody know where I can find this? Cheers, Martin Quote
West Coaster Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Check out "A Mild Form of Insanity: Recollections of a Helicopter Pilot" Can get it on Amazon. Quote
klasmartin Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 The book I was thinking of was "Uniform Kilo" by Tim Gilbert and was actually a flight from the UK to Australia, not around the world. Anybody read this book? http://www.uniformkilo.com/ Also found a 20 minute video from thier trip on google video. At about 6 min 30 sec into the video they try turning the lights on with a very audible electrical arcing sound. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4...&q=uniform+kilo Quote
copter doctor Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Here's a couple I enjoyed reading. 9 Lives of an Alaska Bush Pilot by Ken Eichner and Tales of a Helicopter Pilot by Richard C. Kiirkland. Quote
klasmartin Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 "Low Level Hell" by Hugh Mills Very good book! Gives quite a different view of flying in Vietnam as compared to Chickenhawk. Amazing what these guys did over there! Quote
Grant B Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Chickenhawk (as mentioned above) was great. I read it numerous times and fancy reading it again for the first time in maybe 10 years. I didn't know he had anotherbook out since as klasmartin said. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/014015876...ce&n=283155 Definately read Chickenhawk first and then go for the next one. Quote
