Looks like I will be getting around 500 hours along with my CFII just before my wife's tour ends here in HI.

She will more than likely be transferred to Germany and I was curious what it takes to get my licenses transferred? Is the JAA the governing body for them? I looked at some regs online and found that the JAA requires English also.

Whats it gonna take to keep flying? :(

Thanks guys.

Hi,

each participating country of JAA is issueing their own licenses under JAR-FCL standard. So if it is Germany where you are heading to, Germany will be responsible to issue a license in compliance with JAR.

If you want to fly for fun, a validation is the easiest way to go. It is still somewhat bureaucratic though. I have a friend (German) who is trying to get such a validation of his US license (commercial helo) and is going through an ordeal to get even private privileges.

If you want to fly commercially, it's even more difficult. You will need to convert to a full JAR license. Or need to find a company that has a need for you and who would "sponsor" you for a commercial validation. Very unlikey with 500 hrs.

You can also try to find an N registered helo in Germany. This way you can avoid all of the hassle and fly with the FAA ticket.

Regards
