I think i am finally going to replace my ole faithful dinosaur KY170 w/ a newer version that has the remote switch on the cyclic, either a KY197 or KY97. What's everyone else use for COM's?

Our R22 has a King KY197A and a Garmin 250XL.

The Raven II we have on order will have a KY197A and a Garmin 430.

I think i am going towards the 197 too, you have the frequency switch on the cyclic too? I find the difference of the 97 to the 197 is the output/transmit watts.

Which reminds me of a funny story about the gal that used to help her husband run the flight school here at this little "country airport"-------the students would call in & ask for a "radio check" she would come back over the base station radio & say "turn up yer volume-i can just barely hear ya"

Robinsons come with 197's as standard equipment, and there aer two switches on the cyclic -- one toggles the active and standby, the other selects from stored frequencies.

I've always been tempted to respond to a radio check request with "I just looked -- I've got mine... Do you have yours?"

But I'm too nice a guy, I guess...

the one i once installed in a friends ship had a switch that was "spring loaded to center" pull & it scrolls thru the channels, push & its the active. the 97 & 197 both have that option/switch

AND? the gal was serious, she thought she couldnt hear the students because they didnt have the volume up enough !
