mountainchopper Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Hey guys, and occasional gals. First post here. I was just wondering what methods everyone uses for off airport power checks? I've heard of a couple of different methods and was just wondering what everyone was using and if they have any reasons other than that was they way they were taught for using them. Thanks in advance. Quote
joker Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 MoutainChopper, Good question. I remember discussing power checks earlier on in the year. Here's the link. R22 Power Check Thread - May 2006 Have a read through this. If you still have questions, ask them, and I'm sure you'll get the answers you're looking for. Joker Quote
mountainchopper Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 thanks mate, i think I'm just going to paste a copy of the OGE hover chart to my kneeboard and keep my mind on the PA, temp, etc... those rules of thumb are pretty good, but I'd like to do things in a manner that I can be sure about. Wesp Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 The best way is try if you can hover between 500' and 1000' feet AGL, if you can hover at that altitude you'll get out again, but for a high performance take-off you need more. So if you come to the hover and after that you can also pull more pitch and climb vertically you'll definitely have enough power. This is basically what we use here in the mountains. Carrying charts doesn't work, you have to make shure before you go in. Quote
