torqueczk Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Hi,Im trying to get a career started in helicopter maintenance.I recently received my A & P cert. and after reading most of the current related job posts and the requirement of 2-5 yrs experience (some, type specific)I find that I just dont have the credentials to even get a foot in the door. Un-fortunately, Im too old(over 49 ;-)) to enlist for the military experience which seems to be theclincher in most cases. I would appreciate any constructive ideas that might point me in the rightdirection. Thanks!Have broom, will travel torqueczk Quote
67november Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 check around to the local FBO's and see if they could use a ramp rat/wrench bender/a/c washer etc...they're usually good at letting ppl get their foot in the door. Quote
Sparks Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 How do you obtain your A and P? Im currently at college doing a National Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering which is based on A&P and geared to set students up to go to uni or get an apprenticeship. I want to go into helicopter maintenance but i have no idea about how to get there? Quote
mikeconti Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I know for a fact that Aguta Westland is hiring A&P Technicians at there new facility in Philadelphia. I worked there for a few months on a contract gig and it was a great place to work. Quote
Bob Loblaw Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 (edited) When I got my A&P, I had to go the FAA and show proof of my experience in both airframe and powerplant.... Luckily I had both, however there were some sheetmetal folks that were only allowed to get their A. I'm wondering how some folks are getting their A&P's without experience? mikeconti Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Correction: Agusta Westland in Philadelphia and they are hiring right out of school. Quote

I attended a local college that has a 2 yr program which covers both required time and subjectmaterial for an A&P cert. After graduation from the course, you become eligible to take the oral/practical and written (x3) tests. Quote
