franknyc Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 How feasible is this? We could split it 5 ways. The cost of the R22 will be about 120K approx. We each get a 200 hour block. Residual value of a R22 w/ 2000 hours after we're done will be about 40K. That's only $16,000 per person. We hire a CFI for $35/hour x 200 hours =$7,000. Plus insurance, hangar fees, maintenance...it'll probably come out to $30,000 or so per person for 200 hours. I'm in the NYC area. (Long Island/Jersey/Weschester) Quote
FUSE Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Honesty it really isn't feasible from everything I have read. This idea comes up every couple months here but I have never heard of anyone actually doing it. Do some searching on here, there a quite a few posts about exactly what you propose. Quote

PA Pilot Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 It worked for us. Five guys bought a 400 TT R22 Beta II. Three got their ratings in that ship, the other two were already rated and flew it for fun. I don't think you are going to find a 1000 TT ship that hasn't been used for traing (and gotten beat up) for $120K though. A nice clean ship would probably fetch something over $150K. Quote
