Guest adas191 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 i looked into going to mazzei (mfs) in fresno. ive searched it here and found no posts about it. just the review. i was wondering if anyone had any experience with them or any thoughts about them. anything would help. thanks Quote
Chi-town Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Got my instrument rating there a while back. I can't vouch for them now because all the old instructors are gone. They had free housing to full time students, good facilities and helicopters, and nice staff. Nearby study-oriented areas include Fresno State (nice quiet library). Downside is that it is Fresno, so not much to do except drink and...drink. There are some ok bars out there, but you'll still be in Fresno. Pay them a visit and get shown around. Meet some of the instructors. Weather is really poor in the winter. Thick fog makes for lots of studying, ground instruction or drinking. Quote
Goldy Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Weather is really poor in the winter. Thick fog makes for lots of studying, ground instruction or drinking. Which is why you should come fly in L.A., fog is gone by 10 am, and theres more bars to choose from. Quote
waterway4 Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 A months ago I read a quote in Sports Illustrated (or maybe it was the the LA Times) from a Fresno State football coach. He was asked why Fresno State has such good luck recruiting players from around the country. He replied: "They think they're coming to Califronia." Quote
hoverflyr Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 If your going to Fresno to train I wouldn't be real concerned about the social scene, I would be more interested in what the school has to offer. I did some training there and checked out both Mazzei and American Helicopters. I went with American a better school in every way, good equipment and excellent instructors. They do the initial training for the Fresno police department and do work for the local TV and newspaper. Quote
Chi-town Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 That is true about American Helicopters. Some friends from Mazzei's are teaching there. Talk to them at American, the lead instructor there is a great gal. I cant believe I forgot about American. Quote
rcklimr Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I go to Mazzei and have not had any problems. Good school and good maintenance. pm me if you want more info. Quote
Darren Hughes Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 There was another guy inquiring about Mazzei back in september. This is a link to the post, hope it works; http://helicopterforum.verticalreference.com/helicopterfor...?showtopic=7659 Cheers,Darren. Quote
Guest adas191 Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 so fog could be a pretty big problem in fresno? i live in so cali right now. after high school im looking to move somewhere within a couple hundred miles from here for a complete profesional flight program.i know mazzei is part141 and offer free housing which i liked. any one know of what would be the best school to go to thats within a couple hundred miles from so cal. some type of free or cheap housing would be great. thanks if anyone could help Quote
Goldy Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 adas- you can work days and take some good ground instruction cheap at nights at Glendale CC. You can get all the way to passing your written without spending more than $200 bucks. Thats a huge step ahead of other programs.....never figured out why more people dont take advantage of it. Then you can take the money you made during the day and spend it on flight training during the weekends. Quote
