H500pilot Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 I am in need of a CFI that can come to Oregon asap and teach a CFI class. The CFI we had lined up for this gig is now MIA. Must have own transportation to and from airport and must be proficient in full downs in the -22. PM me or post here if interested! I will also be posting this in the Employment ads as well. Quote
nbit Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Just curious... I thought that full down autos are no longer required for CFI. Just wondering why the full down req'd??? Quote
H500pilot Posted December 16, 2007 Author Posted December 16, 2007 Really? Everybody I know that has done there CFI check ride in the last few months has all had to do Full Downs. Quote
aclark79 Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 (edited) I did some researech and you are absolutly right, you don't have to do a full down... of course you won't pass the exam without one! Full Down autos are required per the PTS. Power on autos are an option. FAA-S-8081-7B Page 8 (PTS Standards for Instructor, Rotorcraft) Aircraft and Equipment Required for the Practical Test The flight Instructor applicant is required by 14 CFR part 61, section 61.45 to provide and airworthy, certificated aircraft for use during the practical test. This section further requires that the aircraft: 1. have fuly functioning dual controls except as .....2. be capable of performing all appropriate TASKs for the flight instructor rating sought and have no operating limitations that would prohibit the performance of any TASK. (NOTE: A tuchdown autorotation is required TASK for the flight instructor - helicopter practical test.) Then again under the actual TASKs, Page 1-37 it says The examiner shall select at teaslt TASK B or C. In addition, applicant shall provide a helicopter appropriate for demonstrating touchdown autorotations. ..... B. TASK: STRAIGHT-IN AUTOROTATION .... 3. Demonstrates and simultaneously explains a straight-in autorotation to touchdown from an instructional standpoint. The 180 says essentially the same thing, just 180 instead. I'd be happy to help you with a CFI class and I love doing full downs, except that I'm already teaching a CFI class in Oregon... (the confisuon might come from a letter a while back, year and a half I think, that the FAA put out that did away with the full down requierment, but about a month or two later (jun of 06), they recinded that.... so its back to the current PTS) Edited December 16, 2007 by aclark79 Quote

The FAA removed the requirement for a few months a year or two ago, then put them back... Yes, full down autos are required for the CFI. Quote
nbit Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Ah... Never heard about adding them back. Glad to hear they did actually. Quote
