When we've have several days of good wx, it's easy to get a pattern, if it's been nasty, and you can't leave HAI for another airport, then yes, everyone's in line for Charlier pattern. LOL

That's how it was today it seemed. Wasn't much demand for the pattern board at all. I think the weather was too nice to spend it in Charlie. :D We actually had our right door off for our flight today it was so nice. B)

Motox, there are a LOT of Norwegian students at Hillsboro.

Most of the foreign students live in the student housing, and are very social. Your best bet is to talk to some of the other Norwegian students and get an honest opinion from them. It would not be hard for one of the instructors to get you a few phone numbers.

The flying here is good, but asking about it during the winter will get you mixed results. The weather is poor for a couple months of the year with fog and low cielings, but you can't fix the weather. It's a good chance to study, or fly some actual instrument in airplanes. Or if you're into skiing, the mountain is only a couple of hours away.

The school is busy, but the training is good. Lots of flight time is available if you watch the schedule closely and you're motivated. I see some students flying 2-3 times a day, regularly. The pattern situation is rough in the winter. When the weather is "flyable" at hillsboro, but not elsewhere, those who sit 2-3 hours and get a pattern are the ones who fly. However, just the other day it was clear and calm and there was room in the local patterns, two flights in a row.

I don't have numbers for the hiring rate, but it is VERY high. I wouldn't doubt 40%, honestly. As the high time instructors get new jobs or leave the country, they are constantly being replaced.

Feel free to PM my also if you have more questions.

Hi All,

Ive just finished working at Hillsboro Aviation. I came out in 2006 from England to spend 2 years and alot of money getting to where i am now.

Now if you are thinking about coming over to the US to do some training, alot of research is involved. Yes there are pros and cons to all flight schools and the final decision has to be yours.

If you do your research you will know that Hillsboro has crap weather in the winter, you will know its a busy school, you will know that they have one of the highest hire rates for their CFI's in the country and they are rapdily growing.

So first of all the managment are very aware of the problems and do a great job on addressing them. The main bulk of the up and coming US students will be sent over to the Troutdale site. Foreign students cannot go there yet as they do not have the J1 visa status for the site yet. Patterns, yes are limited but just ask yourself one question:-

How committed to this are you?????

Yes you can wait 2 hours for a pattern- you can study at the same time.

You can study at the school and get cancelled slots to get extra flight blocks.

you can use the bad weather to enhance your decision making experiance.

We seem to have alot of students here at the moment that think they dont have to try and make an effort. Beleive me i know exactly who are the students that are always on time, Always motivated, Always making the good out of bad situations, Always studying and Always getting good grades.

Now if you want to come to the school, do your homework, get the right attitude and be prepared to work hard. If you do this, you will be noticed, and good things may happen for you.

Just because you trained at the school does not mean your entitled to a job. Aim for high scores, be early, work and study hard and the effort will pay off- Beleive me i know.

The school is good, the instructors and staff are excellent, the location is excellent. All that is needed now is hard work on your part and you can acheive anything.

Good and safe flying to you all.

Richard.
