bgot21 Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Lets not allow this to ruin the publics image of helicopter flight training. I have already had several friends and family members come to me with warnings of pretty much a mass Armageddon of helicopter flight training, and that im going to end up the same way.... ruining my life with TONS of debt and no way out! Its ridiculous to me when i hear them because i know that this is truly an amazing industry with tons and tons of honest hard working individuals who are fortunate to live their lives to the fullest each day they go to work. which is something so few people can ever say they do. If theres anyone new out there who may be doubting the attempt at becoming a helicopter pilot due to the recent SSH fiasco, then i... as a fairly new student.... would really like to assure you that they...SSH... as everyone pretty much already knows now, are truly one of a kind (in a horrible way) and that there are still several great school out there. And while im here if anyone is looking for a suggested school right now then i urge you to visit Longhorn Helicopters out of Denton. They do not advertise very much but they really dont need to considering how each student whos trained there has pretty much done that job for'em...including myself now haha and ive only been with them for about a month.... (however my research took several). The instructors are also truly there to train you instead of gaining hours for their next job...this is a HUGE PLUS, along with several more...however if i tried listing them all then id be here all day. But If your interested and your having trouble finding more information on LH feel free to ask me anything... id love to help. well anyways i hope everyone involved with ss can pull through this hard time....my prayers are with you all. jehh Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Lornhorn is indeed a good school. Dale is the owner and will treat you well, we use him as a DPE and have found him to be fair and honest in his dealings. There are several other schools in Dallas, of which most people who attended SSH already know: Summit Helicopters (www.flysummit.com)Sky Helicopters (www.skyhelicopters.com)Epic Helicopters (www.epichelicopters.com)Premier Helicopters (www.premierheli.com) Quote

They are operating out of Denton Municipal Airport. Gene is military trained with thousands of hours - this made a big difference to me as I had an unpleasant experience with an instructor at another flight school (instructor had a few hundred hours). TheLorax Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 i for one think this is a great post. very well written and you touch on every point a new student might have. but... i dont know if this is categorized in the " no advertising for flight schools" category. nonetheless, good post bgot21! Quote
