Witch Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I was going through my wallet and looking at the expiration dates on my driver license,Concealed carry permit, and Pilot certificate. Yes, I know it doesn’t expire. I was looking closer at it when I noticed that the struts on the Wright Flyer seemed to be a littledarker than the rest of the plane. I got out a magnifying glass and saw that the struts wereactually words. It was difficult to read because of the size and lighting conditions, so I scannedboth sides. The scan wasn’t good enough to see clearly, but it is readable. Here’s what’s writtenon the Wright Flyer in front; Without question, flight is represented by countless heros who have stirred greatness in others. Itwas a dream waiting to be realized by countless visionaries, scholars, and brave souls. But evenas the (illegible) of llected knowledge came to a crucial turning point, it was not until theingenuity of the Wright Brothers that the (illegible) was solved. Discovery required (illegible)interpretation of knowledge... On the back, writing is everywhere on the plane and on the brothers’ clothes. It says; The Wright Brothers are among a league of heros that inspired the world to follow their dreamswith passion, courage, and resolve. Representing those unique individuals whose achievement... The rest is either covered or illegible. So I'm wonderin' what the whole thing is supposed to say and where and who wrote it. Anyone know the origin of this text? Where I may find that text? Have tickets to a Hannah Montana show? Later Quote
Goldy Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Have tickets to a Hannah Montana show? No, but she was in town a couple weeks ago getting her hair done. Had to call in about 4 units just for crowd control. Come on people get a life. Her family used to live in town, but people just couldnt leave them alone. We snuck her out the back into an alley, stupid papparazzi never knew what hit them. Oh, this is a helicopter forum??? oops. Quote
lelebebbel Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 hey, you're right! There's text on the wright flyer! Somebody ask the faa where that quote is from. I hear you automatically qualify for a class 1 medical if you can read it without a magnifying glass. Quote
Jeff Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 So I'm wonderin' what the whole thing is supposed to say and where and who wrote it. Anyone know the origin of this text? Where I may find that text? Have tickets to a Hannah Montana show? I think I read somewhere that those words are from a speech by former FAA Administrator Marion Blakey. You can read them pretty well with 10X magnification. You will find other writing along the ring of the hologram on the front side. ~Jeff Quote
FauxZ Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Wooo!! 1st class medical for me!!! I can read the text on the wings and the back if the light hits it right, but not around the hologram. It is way too shiny. In related news, just to brag, I think my vision was 20-10 far, 20-12.5 intermediate, and 20-"20" near. The doc said the 20-20 near wasn't "possible with my other results," but it passed the 2nd class so that's what he put down. I may have mixed up the far and int readings, i don't really remember. All that doctor stuff is mumbo jumbo to me. Quote
67november Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 You will find other writing along the ring of the hologram on the front side. ~Jeff It says FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION Quote
Jeff Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 It says FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION Actually, it says, "FAA CHARTING THE NEXT CENTURY OF FLIGHT" four times around the outside of the logo. You will need to magnify it to see it and hold it in the light just right, because it's a hologram. FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION is visible with the naked eye, but the other stuff isn't. ~Jeff Quote
rotormandan Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 That's pretty cool. There's even writing around the Wright Bros. Collars. Of course now that I've looked for it, the words just stick out like it should've been obvious those struts were writing. HA! Quote

diverturnedpilot Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Having dealt with the FAA on lots of occasions while getting a Basic Part 135 from scratch...we did A LOT of waiting on the Feds...now I know what they were doing....playing cutesy with our Certificates. I do however, appreciate the significance of the Write Bro's and am glad to see they have landed on such a monumetal document! Quote
