I have looked into it as well.Then there's the matter of student/travel visa, high crime (I have several friends in the South African Police Service). Not as simple as just shacking up in SA for a few months. Largely depends on what school, which city, etc. Feel free to have your friend contact me. It'd be interesting to compare notes.
