Has to be the angle because if you look at the last frame, the surf board is above the rotor plane.

Depth perception.... aint it great. Well it might be the angle too. To me the helicopter was about 10-20ft away from the surfer and the wave.

Hard to judge depth from a telephoto, at least by relative sizes. He was further away than it looks.

Man, this thread was made for me. As a career helicopter pilot, life long surfer and photographer, mostly surfing – I can say that telephoto lenses (max zoom), in the case of this video from shore, makes objects look closer than they are. Here is a perfect example…

 

Telephoto (max zoom)... tailrotor hanging off the edge of the building:

View from oposite side with no zoom shows the tail wasnt' really hanging over the edge:

Is it the helicopter BELL your assign on Chris ?

I like the challenging flying path towards the top building helipad.

Most be a great ball of pleasure to hover and land while strong wind ...

In addition, the angles of the blades can be adjusted individually. This controls the helicopter’s horizontal movement, including forward, backward, left, and right.
