Darren Hughes Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/MI147768/ Glad to hear both instructor and student are ok. Not too often you hear of a full blown engine failure in the robbies. Strange that they're showing a ship on the video with no floats. I thought all the Boatpix ships had big permanent floats. Quote

Yeah, unofficial word is that it was a loss of power/power failure. Important part was both pilots got out fine...looks like one of them even managed to save his Bose. BoatPix does have a bunch of Mariners (with detachable floats), but I don't think you can get a new Mariner anymore. This one wasn't a Mariner. Seas were also pretty rough at the time: read one report that said 7-ft swells. Quote
rotormandan Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 2.5 miles off shore without floats...??? Seems like not the best idea for any operation. I also thought that all of Boatpix's ship had float since they mainly fly over water. I don't think they would've helped too much in 7' swells out there. Glad to hear they pulled it off. Everything must've been smooth despite the eng failure part. Quote
