AP430 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I was looking for other Veterans or even non-veterans that are attending the Guidance/Yavapai professional Helicopter program. I would like to hear from current students or graduates on your experience with this school. Thanks Quote
gary-mike Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I don't fit your request, but I wish I could go there for the experience. From what I have heard they are very well versed with the GI Bill stuff, which I am finding is not very common. I plan on using the Ch33 benefits also, but I am still active duty so I have to go through an online program. Trying to figure out the VA programs has become quite a headache, (espcially after this last reform). If you have any insight or suggestions on the "best bang for the buck" I am all ears and would greatly appreciate it. 1 Quote
AP430 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Gary-mike, you are right most of the schools are not very familiar with the new post 9/11 GI bill. There are many who are part 141/VA approved and know how to use the old GI bill, but the old one as you probably know only covers 60% of flight training costs after you obtain your Private. FYI I have spoke spoke to Guidance and they have confirmed that the new changes in the GI bill will not effect their program. They seem very confident and provide straight forward answers regarding the use of the 9/11 GI bill with their program. I am hoping to find some current students that are in this program. It seems as if this is a very new program and probably only a handful of veterans have gone through this. Hopefully more will chime in with their first hand experiences sooner or later. The area in northern arizona is awesome, which is a huge relief since its not another Iraq like I was afraid. Forested area, with the airport seated conveniently at 5045 feet allowing us to log everything as high altitude flight. One of my favorite parts is the amount of off airport training. Theres another school on the airport that spends almost all their time in the pattern, whereas we go out to the verde river and do confined area landings as well as some really fun pinnacles. Guidance has a couple of landing pads off airport that are a lot more fun to shoot autos into with a lot less pressure from ATC. I can honestly answer any questions you have about Guidance or the surrounding area, shoot me a PM if you want. All in all though, I don't have a single regret about choosing Guidance over the other ones I looked at, including staying in the military and flying. 1 Quote
