De Vo Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Beckwith, I appreciate you attempting to set the record straight about Rotors of the Rockies. I too am a student at ROTR and have nothing but the highest opinion for the owners. The rumor mill about ROTR is astounding. When I see stuff like this, I can't help but take it very personally. The owners of ROTR have been WONDERFUL to me and they show that they truly care about their students, on a personal level. Of course, you can't please everyone and I'm sure that there are people who haven't had the same experience as I have, but that can be true for any company. No aircraft have been repossessed. If they have been, they were not aircraft OWNED by ROTR. I recommend that anyone interested in flight training, really do your research rather than only believing what is written in forums. This industry is small and anyone with a vendetta can do a lot of damage. If you're going to drop thousands of dollars on flight training, it's well worth your time to fully research any flight school.Flight experienceROTRs has 10 years and counting, while our chief has thousands of hoursOur chief is a combat veteran pilot, former blackhawk instructor pilot, and former instructor at the Army's high altitude training facility, plus more credentials that I can't even remember.[*]Training experienceROTR advertises that they have trained pilots for several law enforcement agencies and other government agencies. When I was researching, I called each agency and spoke to people in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico. Every person I spoke to has nothing but wonderful things to say about ROTR and their owners.[*]Accidents or lack thereofROTRs has zero training accidents. The one accident one might say is on their record involved an aircraft hangared at ROTR, but was not a pilot from ROTR.[*]FleetIt is true that the ROTR fleet is down significantly, due to the actions of the owner of the particular aircraft that left the hangar. ROTR is in the process of obtaining more aircraft and the wait is killing all of us.[*]HonestyIs the company or the instructors only interested in training you and getting your money? Or are they interested in getting you your license, even if it means recommending you go to another school? I've personally heard conversations that went that way. If you want to go to ROTR but it wouldn't be your best investment for your training money, they will suggest alternatives that may work better for you. 4 Quote

khatira2u Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Research your school choice completely before you make your choice. Every school has good qualities and bad. Quote
aeroscout Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Hey, khatira2u Welcome to the forum. I don't know how well your read the forum rules, but even still, professional courtesy would guide that any negative statement about a person, or a business should be backed up by the accuser. I see you have made quite a few positive statements, which is to be commended. But on the negative side you should be ready to back up anything you say with your full identity, and email address. It's just not fair to cast aspersions anonymously, don't you agree ? Quote
Goldy Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 As one who leases helicopters to flight schools, I just wanted students to realize that this is a fairly common tool used by many operators. In fact, I would suggest that a high majority of schools have one or more leased ships. When that helicopter goes away, either the lease term expired or somebody's not happy with how they are getting paid. No owner just suddenly decides that today, for no reason, I'll go pull the ship. Goldy, it is obvious that you have extensive experience in the industry as a whole, beyond mine. Although I urge you to refrain from making blanket statements. Lease-back is traditionally what ROTR has done, like most flight schools. A person (who will remain nameless) bought a few aircraft, and it was believed that the aircraft were purchased specifically to use at ROTR. Were any aircraft repossessed? No. Pulled? Depends on how you look at it. They were removed from the hangar and put up for sale. His reasons for deciding to sell all of his aircraft are his own and I am not privy to that information. ROTR is taking steps to protect themselves from this sort of situation in the future but it is a slow process building the fleet back up. I am highly informed about the situation at Rotors of the Rockies but I'm sure I do not know every detail. I dare not make statements or accusations that I can't back-up. If I were one of the involved parties, I might feel I have the authority and information to share details but I'm not, so I won't. From a student's perspective, it felt very sudden, shady, and like a sort of betrayal. To anyone who believes any defamatory information about ANYTHING, I say consider the source. What would that person or people gain by poisoning anyone's opinion. Get ALL the facts FROM THE SOURCE(s). There are always 2 sides to every story. Listen to both sides then make up your own mind about what to believe. I stand behind every word I stated about ROTR in my previous post in this topic. Quote
