Shaun Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 A friend of mine is interested in a 2 seat helicopter, specifically the Rotorway with a KISS turbine engine conversion. http://www.kissaviation.com/ Has anyone had any experience with this helicopter? Is it safe? 2 Quote
RkyMtnHI Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Hey Bud, how's it going up North? We miss you already. Kenton has time in one and of course Tim can tell you a lot about it. Give me a call if you don't have the numbers. dp Quote
Whistlerpilot Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 IMO safe and helicopter are not really synonymous! But if you were to rank helicopter safety on a spectrum, a kit built helicopter is pretty low. On the other hand 80% of accidents are human error so if he does a good job building it, and is a good pilot, it's likely as safe as he is. I know very little about rotorways and even less about the turbine engine option but a common thread with them is to spend years building it then roll it over on one of the early flights. Why doesn't he look into a used R22 instead? He could probably get one for the same price and it's a tried and true certified helicopter. Those who actally fly Rotorways can fill us in on their experience. Quote
