Hey Black Bear I didn't notice that you were talking about Ray Conant's book Helicopter Flying for Fun and Profit. Sorry I started another thread about it because I think it's great info. I checked out his website and will definitely buy his book and do his course. I think it's really valuable operational information for pilots of any experience level. Highly reccommend it!

Whistlerpilot, no worries. I just recieved the book, and I'm already half way through it. The author does a great job of drawing you in and making you feel like you are there. I find myself critiquing his methods as well as considering my own. The lessons are both subtle and apparent with a lessons to be learned summary at the end. It's true, the information he provides, I believe based on my own experiences, are not given much, if any consideration in flight school(speaking of training in the U.S.). Far from a technical manual, it provides great insight into common sense judgement and the importance of being prudent when you fly and understanding that, with calculated decisions, hopefully, comes a long and fulfilling career. I have to give credit to a long time, experienced pilot such as Ray for caring and taking the time to share his knowledge. I for one, would love to read or hear more from pilots from his generation with more to offer than just FAR's and PTS.
