LilaDuck
Hey, so I’m a single parent looking into becoming a helicopter pilot. I really want to do this but I’m wondering if it’s possible to swing in my current living situation. Are there jobs where you’re home every night? I understand that there’s long hours (I already work long hours at and incredibly physical job) and I know it’s expensive to get trained. I just want to know if there’s positions that will allow me to be home every day.
Wally
Yes, there are 'home every night jobs'. I retired from one, a local HEMS job. I also worked as an instructor, which not only was 'home every night', my family lived in housing that my employer provided at the school. And, yes the hours are long, depending on type of job and can result in overnight stays when the weather doesn't allow a return to base. I've spontaneously spent the night with the bird in a field on occasion in 48 years.
