mechanic Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I found this link interesting. The video quality is not real great but, the audio seems to come in good. There are 3 decent video's to watch on this link. The Brantly Experience video is a flight demo with an older B2, I don't like the bubble on the B2. The other 2 video's are B2B's. I believe the Brantly would be a good economical alternative to adding a few hours after you get the min needed R22 time. I will be the first to admit it is not the sexiest helo on the pad. www.Brantly.info, then click the video button on the left side. The Brantly Experience Witchia Falls 04' (second one) Steve and Alejandro Chenoweth Safe flights. Quote
R44 Driver Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 If you want to know anything about a Brantley you could check with a guy named Dave Hynes. He is located at Hampton Roads Air Charter in VA. They are a Robinson dealer. His family owned Brantley in the 1980s. I found this link interesting. The video quality is not real great but, the audio seems to come in good. Beyond it not looking that great, there is the fact that I've heard its very hard to get liability insurance, and even harder to get hull insurance for the aircraft. Also, I'm not sure the company has sold a model in the US for the past couple of years, but I heard somethig about them being bought by a chinses company a while back so they might be doing alright. Looks like a flying sugar cone. And looks uncomfortable to sit in. However I heard the blade design makes for smooth flying. Is there any truth to that? Quote

AndrewT Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 However I heard the blade design makes for smooth flying. Is there any truth to that? I read some reviews that said you don't even feel going through ETL. What insurance companies still cover the Brantly? Quote
mechanic Posted April 26, 2006 Author Posted April 26, 2006 Hi all, The insurance suggested by the Brantly.info site is Falcon Insurance. Brantly Spec's If I can make my bonus at work I would like to go to the factory for a fly!!!!! Regards Quote
AndrewT Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Hi all, The insurance suggested by the Brantly.info site is Falcon Insurance. Falcon Insurance I also read on Brantly.info that Falcon no longer offers insurance, i guess the thing to do would be to call Brantly and Falcon and see what the real story is. Quote

I never found any posts that said Falcon wouldn't insure the Brantly. Someone posted that they didn't want to pay the rates from the company they found, but did not comment on which company it was. The other post I saw said that All had not responded with a rate. So, I either overlooked the thread or ........... You already know what to do, so why not do it? Insurance might be a big problem? Maybe thats what ended East Carolina Helicopters? The owner of the school where I train said he used the Brantly years ago. Said they had over heating problems and limited power in high DA. I thought I read they have added twin cooling fans to correct the heating problems earlier models had, though? Are you seriously looking to purchase a Brantly? Just curious. Did you see this posting for a possible insurer? Aero Insurance, Inc. Dawn Mamoth dmamoth@aeroinsurance.com 972-980-0800 1-888-634-0888 Regards Quote
flylow Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 The B2 and B2A models could have heating problems if doing a lot of hovering. The B2B does have the twin cooling fans. I've never had any overheating problems with mine. I don't find it uncomfortable to sit or fly in. I've done two 1200-1300 mile cross country flights in the B2B and will continue to do more. The visibility is almost as good as the ol' Bell 47. When tracked and balanced properly, the unique blade design gives an extremely smooth ride (I guess that could be said for many helicopters though.) I believe Falcon will still insure Brantlys. Hot, high & heavy can present power issues, but I haven't flown a piston helicopter yet that didn't have some problems under those same conditions. About not feeling going through ELT. Depends on the conditions and who's flying!! Quote
