DukeChin Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Are you a left-handed scorpio to boot or did you narrowly escape that one?Odd, what does being a scorpio have to do with anything? (I am, but maybe I'm not getting the joke here) Also chiming in as one of the "bothies". Ambidextrous brought up as a righty in school. I feel comfortable doing things either way (batting, writing, etc) except for archery. I don't know why, but the drawing motion only feels normal/comfortable with my left hand. I had my old gym teacher way back in high school wondering what the hell I was doing with a right handed bow. Hey, I didn't know any different - it was the first time I ever tried it. I suppose drumming for 12+ years has also helped out a lot with limb independence. Strange that there's so many lefties here, though. And I have an absurd amount of left handed friends as well. We better do something before you all rise up and revolt! heh Quote
a94520 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 ME to thought it would be a pain but did not notice it at all after the first flightPerhaps thats why the 300\500 PIC flies from the left seat. Left on cyclic Right on P2s collective Hmmm must try that some time ! Putting the pilot on the left, like in a 300, allows for more room to accomodate 2 passengers. If it was flown from the right side, the center collective would take away too much room. That's the main reason it was designed to be flown from the left, where the collective has the least impact on cockpit space. I don't think it has anything to do with lefties or righties. Quote
Rotorman Posted April 21, 2006 Author Posted April 21, 2006 no I'm a left handed Gemini, my evil twin is always trying to get me in trouble I m also a Gemini. So my theory is once more confirmed, that the most lefties are Gemini.. or inverse? Quote

DukeChin Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I think most people do not realise how many lefties they know or are associated with.Well, it's always been a topic of converstaion in my circle of friends for years now. Moreso that the majority of said lefties are the cliched creative-types; a number of very good artists and musicians. Okay so here's a question for you lefties: Would you say you exhibt left or right-brained personality traits? Quote
67november Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 I feel us lefties are extraverts, and some of us perverts Quote
Guest pokey Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/libra...lendar2006.html A calander for you (us) lefties, the site has some neat "lefty-stuff" tooo ! I do some things better w/ my left than my right some not so better. Can write w/ my left ( but not many can read it)---right hand aint much better tho Ping pong ?--am equally dangerous w/ both hands. Batting too. Quote
67november Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 cool calender here's a USA store http://thelefthand.com/ Quote
Autorotator Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I too am a left handed Gemini. The only things I do left handed are eat, and shoot pool. Everything else I do is right handed, including drums, guitar, throwing (darts, baseball etc.). But I kick with my left foot. I'm confused.....Anyway, interesting thread. Quote
lelebebbel Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I'm lefthanded or ambidextrous i guess. Can write with both hands, but faster and a bit less ugly with the left hand - for most other things (eating, cutting, computer mouse or laptop trackpad..) it doesn't make a difference to me. It would be interesting to try to fly the R22 from the left seat, using the right seat collective... remind me to try this during CFI training some day! Ok maybe not.... 1 Quote
me shakes fist Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Why was this thread brought back from the dead; it makes me feel left out since I'm a right handed Gemini. Quote
mechanic Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 You are not left out. I am a right handed Virgo, lol. I can wright with my left hand and scratch my nose too, due from a accident I had when I was a kid. I HAD to learn to use my left for writing. My right arm/wrist was in a cast up past my elbow for nearly 5 months. My wrist had to be rebroken and reset once, had home therapy for months and it took nearly a year to get my flexability back in my wrist. I only write with it when people get into the ambidextrous discussions. Later lefty Quote
heligirl03 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I read somewhere that 11% of the general population is left-handed. Definitely seems like higher in helos based on this thread! Maybe someone could set up one of those polls? I'd do it but I don't know how yet and I have to go study, I'm already distracted enough! I'm a righty Sagittarius, btw. My sister is a proud lefty Leo! Pendley Jones Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 As an instructor, I see way more left handed people at the flight school than I do out in the rest of the world. I'd say about half my students are lefty. I think left handed people have an advantage in helicopters. I notice that the left handed seem to grasp new maneuvers more quickly. I think it's because more constant use of the right side of the brain readily gives them access to the ability to visualize in 3 dimensions. There's the writing thing while you're flying, too, yeah. Then there's also the ease in controlling the throttle from the get-go, because it's already the stronger, more coordinated, more sensitive hand. They do seem to tend to have a little more problem with overcontrolling the cyclic, though. Quote
ponch Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 This is the first time left handers can rule the planet Now we just need a Ned Flanders store Quote
Thewrench Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I was born using both hands. My hardest problem was manipulating the throttle with the wrong hand in the wrong direction.(Any other bikers out there?) Other than that, nothing else in the world is like a cyclic. You'll have to learn it with either hand. Have fun!! Quote
