Norcalguy Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Next year I plan to begin flight school while attending a local junior college. Ideally, I would complete flight school in approximately one year and, hopefully, get hired as a CFI while I continue working on my degree online through UVSC. My question is what impact will being 19 years old have on my chances of landing that ever so critical first job? Also, how big of a factor is a college degree in getting hired as a CFI? Thanks for your help in advance. Quote

A degree won't help you at all "in getting hired as a CFI". Qualifications for that job pretty much entail just that you are capable enough to not break the aircraft, you can be flexible about when you work...i.e., you have another job when the school does not have a student...and you will work cheap. But...the degree will help you later. Especially if it is in an area that will give you some insight into something other than flying...other than "Aviation Science"...like Business. There's a pretty good article about on-line education in today's (May 9) Wall Street Journal. I'm curious, how are you paying for flight school? Good Luck Quote
Norcalguy Posted May 9, 2006 Author Posted May 9, 2006 Thanks for the info. I have a decent savings toward flight school and my mom is willing to help cover the diffrence. Also, I plan to be working. Quote
