Bear19
I am interested in flying in the Gulf of Mexico but don't have an instrument rating, what are the flight time requirements and is it possible to get a job without an instrument rating? Thanks for the info.
jehh
Generally the Gulf operators are going to require 1,000 PIC helicopter hours to be a VFR captain. A few companies, Era being the most notable, will hire you with less time, down to 500 hours, as a SIC in an IFR twin, for less money. That being said, without an instrument rating, you're not going to get very far. You also really wouldn't want to fly down there without one, as you'll end up in the clouds sooner or later. When you launch at 500 and 3, it goes from bad to worse pretty quick. Fly Safe...
