I want to be a pilot for my current agency, and I'm looking for a "real world" estimate on what something like this would cost.... here is a cut and paste of the requirements for one job listing.

Basic Requirements for All Positions in this Occupation:

"A current FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with the following ratings: airplane, single engine and multi-engine land and instrument; OR rotorcraft helicopter and instrument. Appropriate U.S. military ratings may be substituted. Other certificates that meet or exceed the requirements of the Commercial Pilot Certificate are also acceptable (e.g., an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate).

A current FAA Class I Medical Certificate for initial entry or re-entry into the occupation. A current Class II Medical Certificate is acceptable for applicants who currently occupy Customs and Border Protection Air Interdiction Agent positions.

A documented log reflecting a minimum of 1125 hours total flight time (50 aircraft hours within the last 12 months) including 250 Pilot-in-Command and 50 instrument/night hours."

It looks like a lot at first glance, is this obtainable for an average dude on average means with above average desire?

I would go the Rotorcraft route.
