Another j1/m1 visa topic

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

i'm sorry to start another topic off on the whole UK citizen wanting to learn to fly in the US and unsure of the visa options. I'm wanting to start my training either at the end of 2007 or early 2008 depending on which school i decide to learn at i.e. HAI or Hillsboro as they offer J1 visas. I've looked at all the other topics and posts on the J1 subject but may have missed a couple of things.

Basically my aim at the moment is to spend the 2 years on the J1 visa to go form 0-CFII (FAA) gaining as many hours as possible and then hopefully looking for a job in Oz or NZ as i have relatives in NZ and it should be easier for myself as a UK citizen to get a visa in these countries. However as its always a race against time for people on J1 visas to build hours, is it viable to make two trips to the states to get to CFII. What i mean is, is it possible to get a M1 visa and then complete your PPL on it and then go back to the UK and get a J1 visa which would then allow me to go from PPL to CFII which would take less training time and therefore allow me more time to build hours as a CFI.

Is this a viable option or can you only get a J1 visa or a M1 visa?

Also if any one has any experience of flying in Oz/NZ and the job market for low hour pilots and converting to the CASA license i would glad of any information you could give me?

cheers

Mike

As far as I know the answer is yes, you can.

Apply for a M1, do your PPL (no other rating or license), go back and apply for a J1.

I recommend to ask the Visa specialists at Hillsboro and HAI, they should know it for sure.

Have a nice day
