Is this a problem for an aspiring pilot? It seems that it would be so far in the past that it would not be considered. Any thoughts?

I just spoke with someone in the FAA office that deals with these matters. I was told that a 20 year old DUI was not a problem at all. The DUI's become a problem when a pattern emerges, one that indicates abuse. I still need to disclose the DUI on the medical form.

You get to learn all kinds of interesting things when you ask questions. In your case you got the anwswer straight from the horses mouth ( Mr. Ed). You should not have much of a problem other that paying for the lessons.

Loosley related.

The FBI have just removed pervious substance abuse as a bar to recruitment. Is this a sign of things to come in Federal/Government employment criteria and will it spread to aviation?

Barks,

I read that article as well. They only loosened the criteria. Still can't have ANY drug use in the last 3 years prior to applying but longer than that won't disqualify you. I'm curious what their motivations are? Are they having a hard time recruiting?
