Slick37c Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I know I can go to Collegedata.com or something like that to get some statistics, but I'm looking for first-handers here. I have a 2.7 High School GPA and will have around a 3 GPA with my Associates degree in Science when I transfer. If I'm looking at the Prescott campus what do you think my chances are if I write a great entrance essay as well? Quote
pilot129 Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Hi Slick, I'm a '93 ERAU Prescott Alumni and I really enjoyed my time there. I had a similar GPA and had no problem getting in (even with a .5 GPA my freshman year in high school...). One of the things that makes it a great school is being surrounded by students and facilty that all love aviation. Another is te small class sizes, my junior and senior classes had about 15-20 people in them, unlike some of my friends at state schools with classes in the hundreds. A word of caution though, as with most aviation related schools, it's EXPENSIVE and they will be providing you with lots of ways to separate you from your cash. There are ways to save money though. First, live off campus. Start early and look for aparments nearby, then get some room mates in your degree program (posting a listing on campus will get you alot of replies). Second, look online for your books. As with most schools, books cost an arm and a leg. Find used ones online or buy them from someone who just finnished the class you are about to take. Beware of edition changes though. You can also save money by getting a recommendation rom an alumni, I think it's $500.00. Drop me a PM if you are interested or have any other questions. Quote
FLHooker Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 slick, i also am a ERAU grad... Dec 05. I also had about the same GPA in HS. If you have the chance, go to their open house, if you apply then, they will usually drop the admissions fee. Atleast, they did for me. Great skool, everyone loves aviation, just don't plan on having a crazy partying college life. Also, make sure you send them your transcripts from your other college, ERAU is particular on what credits they will accept towards your degree, seeing as most of the classes are based around aggrevation... i mean aviation. best of luck to you, CHAD Quote
james28 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 do you know how they are with scholarships? i have a 3.9 high school gpa and 29 act score. Quote
FLHooker Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 From what I saw, they are pretty good with scholarships, if you contact the appropriate Financial Aid office, they should be able to hook you up with a list of scholarships that you can apply for through the University CHAD Quote
Z32MadMan Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 do you know how they are with scholarships? i have a 3.9 high school gpa and 29 act score. They gave me a $4000 per year scholarship. I had a 4.2 and a 29. Apply early for everything. There is a lot of money that they will give you. Use BrightFutures if your from FL. The school will even give you $1000 per year if you just fill out the financial aid forms. Go to the school for the tour and they will give you free applications. If you get a graduate of Embry to sign off, you get $1000 per years also (and if you don't know one they will give you the number of a admissions advisor who will sign it for you). Like I said there is a lot of money in that school, research and it will all ad up. Almost $40,000 a year is still a hellofa lot of money. I was going to go there but decided to go to UCF which has a great engineering program, plus the tuition is a bit more managable. Quote
james28 Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 yea, that's just to much for tuition. thanks for the information though. Quote
heligirlzrule Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 As a current student at riddle it is way too much money!!! I think since I've been there the cost of tuition has increased like 18%. If you are dead-set on helicopters there is also a pretty good program at the community college - Yavapai. And if you do some math - you'll find that you would save a lot of cash going that route - wish i would have...now I’ve invested so much in riddle that i have to stick it out. For the most part you will find Profs there that want to help you others just seem like they are filling desk space. But I'm sure you'll find that where ever you go! Utah Valley also has a degree program you may want to look into. Keep in mind you do not have to have a degree to be a helicopter pilot. But it IS nice to have a safety net. Good luck in your search! Tweedles Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Hey, I have no helpful info on ERAU admissions, but a hardy hello to to all you Riddle students and grads! The ERAU degree has served me well, even though it was pricey. Being surrounded by other aviation nuts was cool too. BTW, I was still able to party! TweedlesBS A/CET'91 DAB Quote
mrjibbs Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 does anyone know how many credits Embry Riddle will give you when you enroll if you hold a CFII? Quote
Tom22 Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 does anyone know how many credits Embry Riddle will give you when you enroll if you hold a CFII? Don’t be scared to talk to an admissions person. Quote
mrjibbs Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 yeah i did, but they wont tell me unless i apply and pay the $50 app fee, i need to know if ill get enough credits to make it worth it before i waste the money. Im not trying to get a degree, just improve my rank... Quote
Tom22 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Are you looking to enroll in professional development courses as a non-degree seeking student? I wish I could give you a specific number on the max credit awarded for your certificates but there is no way to know until admissions has done your evaluation. Sorry this is no help, but it would probably be worth it. Quote
helistar Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 James28, with a 29 act you'll most likely receive a nice scholarship from erau provided your resume is complete. Quote
Wannabe1 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 MadMan... How did you like UCF? There now? I have a daughter that probably will end up going there next fall. The Burnett School. Any pearls for her? Warnings? but decided to go to UCF which has a great engineering program, plus the tuition is a bit more managable. Sorry about the hyjacking of the Embry thread... Thanks,Tom Quote
