FUSE Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 In another thread it came up about water survival training. It's going to be a while till I'm at a spot where the employer will pay for this so I'm on my own here. I really want to do this. I live in Maryland just outside of D.C. Can anyone recommend a place where a civilian can go and not be sponsored by some company to get the training. I'm looking for the basic water survival training stuff and especially someplace with a helicopter dunk tank so I can learn how to exit a submerged helicopter. Quote

rmiller4292 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I actually just attended a Water Survival Course at the ALEA Central Region Safety Seminar in Dallas. They put on an excellent course which included the SWET (shallow water egress trainer) in a hotel pool. It was excellent training. If you fly anywhere near water, I would highly recommend some type of training, even if it is only basic stuff in a hotel pool! Ryan Quote
jehh Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 http://mstc.louisiana.edu/mets/index.shtml That is the training that we were given in the Gulf of Mexico... It doesn't seem like a big deal, until it is dark, there are 4 people in there, 2 of the doors are blocked, and you're upside down underwater... Unbuckle your seat belt before you have the door off or your hands in the right position and you'll just get turned around and lost. Once you practice the proper way to leave, you can do it with your eyes closed (and in fact I think it is easier that way) Quote
