Helihead Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) If you use a sim, I think 7 hours can count for your private and so many for your instrument can't remember 20 or 30?... if anyone knows the correct numbers post them on here please... Here is the question(s), yes the sim will save you some money but if you can't log it as PIC or total time, then Is it really worth it. You need PIC or total time to get employed right so you will have pay or get thoes 20 or 30? hours anyway to get the PIC/total time needed to get insurance requirement or whatever. So is it wise to use simulators , maybe it would be ok to log a few hours but not all 20 or 30 that you are allowed to. What does everyone think, how many hours should be in a sim if any, what are some routes people in here have taken and were there any downfalls to logging sim FTD time, ( which didn't help them with the total time or PIC)?Thank again ohh any if you can log any towards the private (like 7 in a sim and the the 33 in a real aircraft (or less for an add-on)), would it be wise to log the max there since that would be the cheapest way to get rated in category and class, then you could start logging PIC time from there on with the rest of your training in an actuall aircraft?? and not do any more and do all rest of yur traininf including instrument training in a real aircraft, that could save you like a thousand dollars maybe a little more or less? No? any thoughts on this as well Edited November 18, 2007 by Helihead
heligirl03 Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 10 Hrs in sim FTD ok for Instrument, plus 20 in type, 40 total. Don't know about for PPL. But have been told that using a PC based sim is useful for practicing Instrument procedures, just to get the hang of it. I'm trying but it's a pain in the butt to set up and learn to fly a sim if you aren't already into it. As far as FTD time towards ratings go, I'm sure you will find that those who have used them are in favor and those who haven't can't offer much of an opinion. Good luck though, can't hurt. It's cheaper than extra flight time! HG03
