jehh Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Like I said before, I can arrange for a CFI to make the flight with the time builder. What CFI wouldnt want to do this? IM paying for all the hotels and a cfi gets free time, a free trip and at least $25 per hour from me. (puts on flame suit) You know what is funny? You offer airfare, hotels, and meals, and you'll get CFIs who will do this for free, just for the time. They shouldn't, but they will. Strange business we're in... Quote
jehh Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 It also is a bit strange that you won't be giving instruction on the flight because that begs the question of how the two pilots are going to split the PIC time. If I were the young time builder I would insist on logging all the time I paid for. If I were the commercial pilot you are sending along with this guy, I would want to be able to log the time as well (since I'm probably not getting paid much for the flight). The only way to do it is if one of them puts a hood on for the whole trip and the other pilot is qualified to act as PIC. That being said, who on Earth would want to wear a hood that long. What is even sadder is that many pilots will fly this, and both log the time. It isn't legal, but they do it. Just wondering if you are paying that second pilot to do this trip, why not just send him to bring it back alone? Less dead weight, less fuel stops, faster to your location where you can start building revenue. It all just seems a bit dodgy to me. So true on the weight and fuel issues, however that long of a flight by yourself gets old... So much more fun to have someone with you. I think it can be safer as well since you can trade off the flying and have someone to watch you. All other issues aside, it might be quicker and cheaper this time of year to put it on a truck and ship it home. No one has talked about how easy it is to get stuck along the way, and that can make this both expensive and time consuming really quick. It sure wouldn't happen this week, to say the least. Quote
Jeff Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I will probably be doing something similar this summer. I am a CFI and I own a 500. (369a standard cat) I will offer some turbine time and some real instruction....yes autos too......for some long x-country trips I will be taking. Probably around 250-300/hour. I am not sure if any are interested in something like this....or if I will get hammered for offering like H500pilot did.... I might be interested in something like that. PM me when the time comes. Jeff Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 H500, Just to clarify my point, so as not to create any unintended animosity: If there is a low-time pilot out there who wants to take advantage of your offer, he/she will definitely benefit from it as long as what they pay overall is less than what rental would cost locally. I was just busting your chops a little because of all the CFI's apparently on this site that would gladly pay you to do it instead of demanding what they are worth as professional pilots. I'm sure you've seen those threads on here. Anyways, I know that is not who you're targeting. You're trying to give an opportunity for a low-time pilot to build some hours at a discounted rate. And I think that's great! Jeff Quote
volition Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I'm off work from dec.15th to jan.7th...You provide all the hotels, i pay 50$ an hour to fly, should be around 25-35 hours of flying? Quote

FlyNHighNFast Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Add me to that list. The 500/600 series are what my helicopter dreams are about. Quote
DOORGUNNER Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I have a R22 that is currently in Florida. I need to get it to Oregon so I am selling the time off it for a very reasonable cost. No training will be given so you must be a rated pilot that just needs to build time. Pm me if interested I imagine someone in my situation would be the ideal target for something like this. I'm a low time private pilot, ( 85 hours ). I fly for fun. I'm slowly building time and would like to have my commercial one day. I have no commercial requirements completed. All my time after my license is just giving friends and family rides and a few hours solo time. All my time is in 300's. If a CFII could be provided, after looking at the FAR /AIM, it would appear that I could complete the following on this flight; 10 hours of instrument training, as well as both the two hour day and night 50nm VFR cross countries. If the flight was approximately 30 hours of flying time, this would probably cost me somewhere in the range of 6000.00-8000.00 ( just an estimate ) at a flight school. Excluding airfare and hotels, how much do your propose this flight would cost, for me or someone in my position. Again, I have no time in a Robinson, and this time of year with the holidays and everything may be an issue. I'm just curious on how much I would be saving as after the new year I plan to stop joyriding and picking away at the commercial requirements anyway. Thanks Quote

Thanks I am pretty sure I have the time sold already. If it ends up being 30 hours, it will cost 4-5k for all the time, plus Im paying for hotels and there will be a CFI there the whole time. AND if they can find cheap fuel along the way I am taking whatever they can save per gallon, from $5.50, off the final tab. It looks like it is going to work great. Quote
jehh Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 If you have never flown a Robinson before, this is not the best way to get an intro in one. I'd strongly suggest 5 hours in the pattern for a low time private pilot doing normal takeoffs, landings, max perf, steep approaches, autos, etc. before launching on such a cross country. The stress level will be much lower, IMHO... Fly safe, whomever is going. Quote

In God We Trust Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Seth, Was that in regards to the 500 time? You are close to me. I am located in Charlotte NC. I was planning several trips this summer. One to central Ohio, near Cincinnati. and possibly a trip up to central NY, near Syracuse. I may fly from Charlotte to Sun-n-fun in Fla as well in April. I think it would be a great way to meet some fellow rotorheads and help cover some the cost of the trips. I could even split up the legs between people because there are major airports at both ends of every trip. Sun-N-Fun may not work though.... I just took the ship offline for a while. I am having it stripped to bear metal and repainted. I am installing all new glass. I may do an avionics upgrade but it all depends on my budget. It may have to wait another year. It has a nice IFR panel but a 530 would fit real nice in the lower area. I am also having a new barrier filter system installed....and then an annual.....so it will be a while before it is up and flying again. Hopefully in early spring it will be back up and looking pretty! That was in regards to the R22 time. I was in North Carolina for a while, now live in so cal, just haven't changed the phone number. (If it works, why fix it?) However i am a man who does not limit oneself. Right now would be a perfect time for me to build some cheap time. Come summer time i should be tied up. But keep me in mind and maybe something can work out. Thanks Quote
