Wannabe1 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I talked to Mark about his demo that day. He was disapointed because there was a pretty stiff wind and he was not dazzling like he normally is with the cone demo. Me, I'd be pretty happy... Quote

southernweyr Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 In my opinion it is not that difficult of a manuever to accomplish. Not to brag but, I was doing that at 55 hours in an R22 just after getting my private pilots cert. Maybe I was just lucky. Anybody else out there with experience with this manuever? Was it just me or is this not too difficult? Quote
rcklimr Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Is it just me or does anyone think that this is an unsafe manuever. The whole time he can't be more than 4"-6" off the ground. Quote
crfracer Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I don't care how many other pilots can do that, that is some really good flying. Quote

Was it just me or is this not too difficult? Did it, March 06’ during my PPL. I had about 7 or 8 hours my CFI (Mark Womack Tropical Helicopters Leesburg, FL) set up 4 cones; I had to fly around the “box”, sideways. After that I had to pick up cones with the skid and set them back down. I was really rough and not as smooth as the video, but I did it. I would have to check, but I think remember him putting it in my logbook as “cone work” Maybe it is the same Mark…. Quote
southernweyr Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I agree I wasn't as smooth either but it's good to hear you were able to do it as a low time pilot too. Quote
freereality Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Rather expensive beer opener. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JckIax0YThU Quote
Paisley Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Is it just me or does anyone think that this is an unsafe manuever. The whole time he can't be more than 4"-6" off the ground. I watched a CFI and a student practicing that in a 22 a couple of years ago. They hooked a skid and flipped. Quote
Wannabe1 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 The guy from Safari is Mark Richards. Flys in the gulf, is the chief pilot for CHR and owns a pc of CHR. He seems like most guys with a lot of helicopter time, kinda hohum on these sort of shows but maybe does em to help sell helicopters? Helicopters don't get much attention at EAA events like Oshkosh. (Mark Womack Tropical Helicopters Leesburg, FL) set up 4 cones; I had to fly around the “box”, sideways. Maybe it is the same Mark…. Quote
southernweyr Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Yes, I agree that it is very dangerous. You could easily roll over and I have not tried it since that time when I was a new pilot and didn't know any better. Quote
svtcobra66 Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I think we do more dangerous things than that during training, it'd be kinda hard to get into dynamic rollover unless you were really overcontrolling...I remember doing that as a student in a Bell 47 without much trouble, granted it wasn't as quick or precise as in the video, but certainly not very difficult.
