Anyone have any information on Helipro, Inc. in San Louis Obispo, California? Its the closest school to me, but i can't find any information on it other then the site. Thanks...

I thought you were from Humbolt "the REAL NorCal"? There are a few schools..A LOT closer to Humbolt than SLO. Ive never heared anything bad about HeliPros...maybe you should start visiting schools that you are considering and see what you feel fits you personally, everyone here will have differing opinions, but its your personal one that should make that final call. Dads from SLO, moms from Humco, sorry for the confusion. Im looking at about 20 different schools in Cali, and im just trying to get as much information on each as I can. I know just about nothing (like price ranges), so im trying to gather all the info I can. I want to go to school full time, flying twice a day 5 days a week if possible. I want to get through as fast as possible, without spending a penny more then I have too. May sound a little unrealistic, but i know I can hold my side of the bargain to get it done. I want to fly, I just want to be the best, smartest and most knoledgable. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it...

Have you done any searches here and on JH? I did one and came up with multiple comments and threads dating back a couple of years regarding Helipro.

 

Give a few of the schools a call, ask some pre-arranged questions, narrow them down and GO check them out. When I was looking at schools, I spent many days traveling throughout California and checking out my final selections before I committed.

If that is your goal, then you should have your student license/3rd class medical AND your written completed before you start flying. That way, you can focus more on learning to fly when you're flying.

Goldy, If its a part 61 school I would agree. But to the best of my limited knowledge, if a 141 school is chosen, ground instruction is still going to be required.

 

But what seems to make the most sense is trying to find a school with good helicopter availability and weather to get thru it quick along with luck, and excellent instructor(s) and a knack to fly!

 

What I don't understand is why we have had a rash of new people trying to get thru the ratings as fast as possible lately? Wierd I say........

Ya, ive searched around alot, but i just wanted to get some personal information from somebody recent about them. And of course i will check out schools before I go, but i thought it wise to find out what people say about a school before I visit it...

That sounds like a great idea. What should I do/get to acheive the written test now while Im at home?

Unless a 141 curriculumn requires it at a prior point (eg. stage check III), I'd recommend taking the written exam just prior to the practical test. Not only is it expensive, but by taking just prior to the practical one has the information fresh in their mind and able to put resources (time and money) toward flight time during a period when that is more important. In addition, I'd be very reluctant to sign off a student for a helicopter written exam before they'd ever set foot in a helicopter.
