And to think, I had a guy on here few weeks ago try to say to me that 'low time r44 tour gigs' are few and far between.

Reading comprehension clearly isnt one of your strong suits. I said that for someone first starting their career, to plan on being a CFI because R44 jobs for a brand new commercial pilot are far and few between.

Last time I checked, people arent graduating flight school with 500 hours. That job post is essentially for a pilot who has worked as a CFI for a year and needs a side gig.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hmm, two more repeats, Lite Flight in Van Nuys and Old City down in America's wang.

This certainly has been the most interesting year for low timers I've ever seen.

,...can't wait to see what next year brings :)

What are "repeats", in the context used above? Do you mean job openings becoming open again? As I said, there are a good amount of jobs out there for mid time pilots. High time, and you are golden.

Before my current gig, I was looking at REACH and CALSTAR jobs... there used to be two to three max listed. Now there are job postings in the teens, repeatedly. And the lowered their hours from 3,000 to 2,000. Not preaching this company... just using it as an example to point to jobs being out there.

Repeats are job postings I already saw earlier this season, and are now back.

Now sure there are companies who post regularly, like the neverending flow of HEMS postings since time and memorial, but jobs for low timers (especially the non cfi r44 tour gigs) don't come out that much,...and they generally don't repeat in the same year!

You mid to high time guys Mud, might be used to "jobs a plenty", but for a 500 hour dude who doesn't want to teach, this has been a year like never before, and I am enjoying pointing it out,...while it lasts :)

The complaint is that there are no jobs for low time pilots. The jobs that require hours and experience are the ones that need hours and experience to do the job safely.

I just did a NVG single pilot hoist rescue in the back country mountains. This was tough, even for me, and I have been doing this for a long while.

There are jobs,...sorry I mean job, for low timers, its called flight instruction. Thing is, if teaching isn't for you the alternatives are few and far between,...not to mention well hidden!

This year however, there seems to be some movement going on, that is bringing a lot of these (once well hidden) opportunities for low timers out into the open. I think its interesting.

Now, do we low timers deserve to work for free for three months (Lite Flight), or be treated like an indentured servant covered in sh*t (Helislave Adventures),...?

That's up to each suc,..I mean wanabee career pilot.

,...in my experience so far, this industry doesn't deserve us!

Butters you don't deserve a job. Nothing personal in that. But you've had many opportunities. Turned down an unpleasant 44 tour gig. It could have built you the time to get a better one. Turned down Tuna boats. Probably a good idea honestly, its like playing russian roulette out there. Turned down an sic gig that afforded you the opportunity to log some pic time. And most of all refused to teach. Man, I don't know you but I like you on the foruns and appreciate your perspective. But opportunity has knocked several times for you and each time you turned it away. Its not the industry's fault you can't get a job. It's yours.

Life Flight is working for free?

Get a life bud... you are a drop in the semen bucket in the industry. You think far too lofty of yourself imho.

Life Flight may not, but Lite Flight is! I suspect you missed the bucket,...you may need glasses?

,...and Fred I'm just happy there are so many options for my fellow low timers this year :)

By the way, you know its funny Fred, I remember after talking to the guy at Tropic I thought to myself, "ok, after six months, maybe a year I'll have what, a thousand, maybe twelve hundred hours,...so then what? I no longer want to fly tours, and that's the only job I ever wanted in this industry, so, what am I doing?"

,..so I turned him down :)

You are a tool, plain and simple. Your lack of hours and crappy attitude will prevent you from ever getting what you would consider a "good" flying gig...

But that's just mho.

mudkow60 doesn't seem like he'd be much fun to hang out with. I love how easily butters gets his goat, though 🤣

The best part is how he thinks he's really burning butters by declaring butters to be unfit for the industry. Butters has been telling us that himself for quite a while now!

Sweet... him discouraging new folks from entering the industry is what I have a problem with.

Nice try with the humor, though....

Enjoy

Discouraging,...?

sh*t, after ten years of searching, quiting, searching, quiting, and searching again, plagued by "internet experts" declaring I have a "bad attitude", I finally found a job!

That's a success story Baby!

If Butters can find work as a pilot then ANYONE can! Plus, look at all the new jobs for low timers this year,...I wouldn't call that discouraging!

He should discourage new people... The vast majority of people I've seen try to make it in this industry have failed. From what I've seen to be successful you have to want it bad enough that you're willing to ignore good advice and do it anyway. Butters is a great warning to anyone thinking about taking out a loan because flying helicopters sounds like a fun way to make a living. And off topic, whats got you so grouchy mudkow? You ok buddy?

Ok.... well, congrats.

Prove us wrong about your attitude, and I will eat crow and retract my statements that you have a "bad attitude"...

Until then, proof is in the above post tone.

Here ya go Mud, something tells me this attitude is more to your liking :)

You and Butters are cut from the same cloth. I will just keep helping folks that ask for my assistance and advice on things helicopter related.

Grouchy? Nah... you and Butters have been just spending too much time together.
