flyboy2233 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I have narrowed my choices down to two schools in the Seattle area. Could anyone share their experience with Glacier Aviation in Olympia, WA? Quote
Chopperman11 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 The school has quality instructors and choppers. I wouldn't have any problem flying with them. Only problem is the weather, I started at their Burlington school and I was only flying 2 to 3 days a week at most. Ended up moving to Idaho to finish training quicker. I only flew at the Olympia school once before my private checkride though so hope that helps. Quote
heligirl03 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Glacier flies HNW owned/maintained helicopters also. They are a little more isolated down in Olympia but have good CFIs and a good track record as well. I'd say your main choice would be where you want to fly out of, busy Seattle airspace or quieter OLM. Also Glacier only has the 1 school location so your teaching opportunities might be more limited, but honestly it's kind of a subjective/timing thing no matter where you go. PM Teddy here on VR, he goes to Glacier. Blue Skies HG03 edit: Forgot about Glacier's KBVS bird. I actually had a transfer student from that location last year. Another out of the way spot but it sure is pretty up that way! Quote
Hedge36 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Glacier also keeps an R22 up here in Anacortes (well, at KBVS). Quote
Chopperman11 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Ya their second school is in Burlington at kbvs that's where I started my training only downfall is they are a lasergrade testing center with only one CFI so you can only fly duel 3 to 4 days a week and in the fall alot less b/c of the weather Quote
Hedge36 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 According to Ryan, there's a new CFI who's to be working the weekends... beginning this week, as I recall. Having the sole instructor tied up in administering exams to bus drivers seems like a waste of a perfectly good helicopter. Quote
Chopperman11 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Ya I agree and ryan is a good instructor too, you think they would get someone that's not an instructor instead of solving the problem with hiring another instructor for 1 r22 at the school. And slows down Ryan building time Quote
