r22butters Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Have any of you done the 5-day CFI Program at Jerry Trimble Helicopters? Is it actually "do-able" in 5-days? How's the examiner? Are they good at finding jobs for their graduates (i.e. do they have contacts)? 1 Quote

Are they good at finding jobs for their graduates (i.e. do they have contacts)? This all depends on having the written completed and being able to perform the maneuvers up to the standards of the PTS. Jerry will sign you off when he thinks you're ready. He uses the DPE out of CVO who is the CP for HTS, good guy he's tough but fair. That said, finding a job will always be up to you. Someone may be able to point out where to look for opportunities, but in the end, you have to reach out and do the legwork to make it happen. That remains true until you are well entrenched in the industry and have developed your own network based on your own reputation. Edited June 30, 2011 by B-Hill 2 Quote
Whistlerpilot Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Hey Butters, I did the "7 day" CFI course with Jerry at JTH. I was very impressed with Jerry and his school. B-Hill is bang on with his advice on all counts. You will need to have the written completed, lesson plans prepared, and comfortable flying from left seat to PTS standard while talking through maneuvers. If any of that needs tuning up it will take longer. I had the exam scheduled for the end of the week so the pressure was on. The oral part of the CFI exam was the hardest and took 3 hours. So yes it is doable but depends on your preparation and currency. Jerry is a great guy and runs an excellent school. Jerry and Alison have stayed in touch with me even though I'm flying in AK. Doubt he can hand you a job but he certainly knows the industry and is a great person to have in your network. Highly recommend JTH, check out the other thread for other opinions. Butters glad to hear you are taking steps to move forward. Even if you don't instruct having the CFI will present more options. It got me over that first 500 hour hurdle so I could get part 135 work. Have fun, be persistent, and enjoy the process. Eric 1 Quote
