Has anybody used their VA benefits for the factory school or any of the courses with either chapter 30 or 33?

As far as chapter 33 goes, a factory school is not in pursuit of a degree with an Institution of Higher Learning. So the factory themselves would not be able to do this. But you might find that some schools who have programs may have that money built into the fees associated with the program.

It sounds like a long shot to me, but its a possibility. When a bunch of vets did ours from Guidance to the RHC Safety Course we had to fund the trip ourselves, but Guidance did allow us to use their vehicle and helped us out immensely making it happen.

Thanks, I just got off the phone with the VA people. I think she had no idea what she was talking about.

She said I could get, under ch 30, a B747 qualification from Bell Training Academy. Dual engine qualification, and flight engineer.

I see now where she was reading it off of the VA website.

Either way, according to Bell, their initial transition course in the 206B, 206L, and 407 qualify for ch 30 now.

The VA rep said after Oct 1st, they should be covered under ch 33.

I have about 7 weeks of ch 30 I need to burn before October I guess :-)

I did forget to mention that if they are a 141 school then Ch 33 is definitely a possibility, but I don't think would cover everything.

Under the new changes of SB 3447 they can get the VA to approve up to $10,000 worth of training directly to the school per year. So this would easily cover the cost of the course I would think.

Burn up that 7 weeks then get 12 more months of ch 33 (assuming you are elgigible for post 9/11)!

Glad to see Bell is returning to the dark side (fixed wing) - maybe they'll knock off a few more speed records again. Damn, if Bell is now doing Boeing 747 quals, might as well see if they can get you fully civilian powered lift rated in the V22, since it is a Bell/Boeing venture too. Just need to convince Bell to cert the 22 and have one available, prolly about the same time the 747 will taxi up for your training, me thinks.

I'm not exactly holding my breath on getting a type in the 747 from bell.

But it makes me wonder if it is possible to get a few type ratings. It would be cool to get a S-64 type rating :-)

Damn, only 10k per year?

That sucks, each course is about 12k,

and yeah I am gonna try to use the rest for an A&P to burn the 7 weeks

Sadly yes, 10k is the limit. However if they were to somehow become a Private institution, there might be a way to charge $17,500 for tuition! Not sure how that would work though, haha.
