fleman202 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) Anyone ever buy or use the lesson plans from "helicopterlessonplans.com"? I have been asked to provide instruction for someone starting from scratch. Since I have been out of instructing for a while I am looking for some teaching aids to help jog my memory on the flow of everything. Edited January 10, 2014 by fleman202 Quote
Bootcamp Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I haven't, but one of my CFI students did. I wasn't that impressed. They wouldn't send you a digital copy and the images were right out of the FAA publications. They are probably helpful to assist you in writing your own. My biggest issue was that the images (all in the back, not with the actual lessons) didn't offer much help when you are trying to draw them on the whiteboard. Quote
rotormandan Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 It would be easier to just write your own. Forget the faa format. Just write your plan so you can basically read off your page to the students. Then when you reference it while teaching it'll make the most sense. Also put your drawings in there too at the same point of the lesson where you'd draw in the board. The lesson plan should be a tool for you. You can make 1 or 2 in faa format in case the examiner asks you to teach about lesson plan format. Quote

Little Red 22 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I've shopped the online lesson plans pretty extensively. THE best, and also the most beautiful, I have found so far comes from the NZ equivalent to the FAA, called CAA. It's fixed wing, but you can use most of the material and customize for helicopter as needed. It is a fine example to work from. I wish our FAA had done something equivalent. Here is the link... http://www.caa.govt.nz/fig/instructions.html I also recommend the following: 1. Helicopter Maneuvers Manual by Ryan Dale, published by ASA (a must have)2. Lesson Plans by Arlynn McMahon (fixed wing, but very good examples)3. Flight Instructor Notebook by Gene Hudson and Bridgette Doremire (FAA format, simple, fixed wing again, downloadable versions available for each lesson) Quote

Is "helicopterlessonplans.com" your site, or do you stand to profit from traffic directed there ? Quote

fleman202 Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Is "helicopterlessonplans.com" your site, or do you stand to profit from traffic directed there ? Not a single bit. I am currently for a fertilizer company and doing ag work. My boss wants me to train one of the other operators here at the plant (I am also a CFII). Since I have been out the instructing loop for quite a while I was looking into resources that could help me make sure I am giving someone who has no previous knowledge of aviation, the best education he can get. I have been reading these forums for a while and thought it would be a good place to get feedback from others in the industry. I guess I should have been more clear in my initial post. Quote
ridethisbike Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Have you been renewing your CFI cert over the years? Quote

The OP asked a simple question. I don't know how you got him trolling or pushing a website out of that. To the OP I just looked at the site. Those lesson plans aren't very good. Quote

I got the sense this was going in a similar direction. No, I am not a mod. Quote
