bwilkins Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Hi...my husband has recently enrolled at SSH, which starts next week. However, I'm beginning to see a lot of negative comments about lack of flight time, employment, etc. Could anyone PLEASE tell me if he should withdraw from this school? I appreciate any advice! thanks! Quote
cospey Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 There is alot of bs about silver state helicopters on this sight. Spend about an hour on here and you will know everything you need to know about them. There really is alot. Also check out silverstatetruth.com. I had the same question and I found all my answers on here or that sight I gave you. Quote
Witch Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Depends on the location of the school about flight time and employment. On the other hand, there have been lawsuits drawn against the company and complaints to the BBB. Personally, knowing what I know, I'd get outta there ASAP. But if he thinks that this is the only option available to him, then this may be the way to go. Look into other options and see how is stacks up to SSH. That's what I did and I think I found a better school with great people who want to see me get that license. Later Quote
FlyGirl86 Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I dont even read half the stuff thats posted on here about silverstate and i still think they are horrible. My cousin is training at their facility in Mesa, which I almost went to. They have tons of hidden charges and just comparing notes with him, i am getting better trained at my school. It would suck to withdraw, but its definitely worth looking into another school to get better flight training and ground training. Quote

I appreciate any advice! thanks! You are going to borrow $70k and give it to this guy's business with no collateral at all...think about it. "Airola owns and runs Silver State Helicopters, which he describes as a $100 million a year business with 500 employees. He and his business are facing a myriad of lawsuits, some stating the business never delivered on promises and one claiming sexual harassment. Airola has vehemently denied the claims and said being sued is part of running a business. Airola also recently said he is planning on selling the majority share of the helicopter company, though the closing date isn't until after the election." http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/200...on/9847884.html Quote

However, I'm beginning to see a lot of negative comments about lack of flight time, employment, etc. Could anyone PLEASE tell me if he should withdraw from this school? I appreciate any advice! thanks! Well you know what? you are not alone. With the only problem that in my case I am the one that flies. I am trying to fly more so I can get my private certification. the only problem is ( OTHER THAN THE MONEY OF COURSE) That the schools never will tell your husband the availability of aircrafts, pilots, and time. Believe me this is a big issue. Neither they'll tell your husband that a lot of schools can't afford maintenance, pilots, aircrafts, etc, just look at this scenario.the pilots leave or they let'em go now the school has one less aircraft flying, the aircraft it's grounded your husband doesn't fly, the school doesn't have that badly money needed for maintenance or running the bussiness. (aircrafts are very expensive to maintain )And also the fAA keeps an eye on them to make sure they comply with it. Now, your husband its waiting the list to fly. If he just starting flying one, two, three hrs. for that school its ok but what if he has 20, 30, 40, or more hrs.? He will have to start in another school and trust me even if they said no! instructors or owners are very jealous and they will try to make you fly more hrs from them even if you don't need'em. remenber a lot of school are just surviving in a daily basis and they will take yours husband money right now its happening to me and it will allways happen to somebody else. in my case funds its not a problem but after 45 plus hrs of flying I am stuck with no instructor. no aircraft. no time, etc. and see? my school its only 2 miles from me. So! tell your husband to choose very carefully where he start flying of. Quote
bossman Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 heli59,I am very sorry for your bad experience with the flight school. Don't put all schools into the same category. Some of them actually want you to attain your license and enjoy the experience. Hang in there and find another school. Most of all, enjoy the ride.bossman Quote
