Heli-Ops Posted October 28, 2002 Posted October 28, 2002 Platinum Aviation out of Nevada are supposed to have a C-30 upgrade program happening with the MD-520. What are your thoughts on this and will it help the aircraft or is it something MD looked at previously and decided it wouldnt work. Heli Ops Quote
EAGLE1 Posted October 28, 2002 Posted October 28, 2002 The rumor I heard was the C30 was the original engine choice for the 520. They opted for a smaller motor with better fuel economy due to the lack of availabe fuel storage in the 520. I think you could only stay airborne for an hour and a half. It also drove the hourly costs up past what MD thought the market would pay for that size helicopter. Rumor only, not sure how much truth there is to it, but it sounds reasonable. Quote
Heli-Ops Posted November 3, 2002 Author Posted November 3, 2002 Spoke to Platinum and they have got over 50 hours testing/flying time on the new aircraft/engine combination so will see how it goes. Heli Ops Quote
