klmmarine Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I am just starting my ppl training and want to do my own ground training while I am at work, on a boat in the GOM. I work 12 on and 12 off days for 28 days at a time and feel that this is the ideal situation for focused study time. I would like to use a pc or internet based training program to help me study. I have gotten good feedback about King, and ASA, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of or tried the Aviator Academy, internet based program and what their thoughts were. Thanks for your help, and I would welcome any advice the experienced pilots have for an FNG. Here is the link to their website if anyone is curious: http://www.aviatoracademy.com/ Quote
Brianmech72 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I don't have much experience with ASA and none with Aviator Academy. The ground school I attend uses the King DVDs. They are very good though they go too fast if not paired with classroom instruction. Just keep that in mind as you watch them that you may have to double back over topics a few times to get it. klmmarine Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 I got an introductory disk from King and it had three example lessons, I could see how they might go a little fast (eg Class E airspace lesson) but fortunately I have nothing but time to replay the lessons. I like King but they are pretty steep as far as cost goes, (about the same as my school charges for regular classroom ground. But unless anyone has used the others and recommends otherwise I will probably shell it out since they have such a good reputation and track record. Quote
Goldy Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) If you want to , you can do it without any DVD programs at all....plenty on the internet, including sample tests, and lots of good books you can read as well...time well spent...besides watching the Kings on DVD makes me ill... Brianmech72 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I think its a hoot to see John talking away in his 40's and then in the next frame he has aged 10 years. Martha does the same but she always keeps the same earrings, necklace, and shirt. Just switches age.
