O.K. folks got another one for ya. And I've done some research but a little confused.

Been looking at King Schools and also Sporty's for instruction.

Now as I understand this one would have to purchase their fixed wing courses and then also purchase the Helicopter supplements. It appears that all of their courses are designed for fixed wing and then those of us who want to be different need to purchase even more.

I have already purchased two of Sporty's videos about helicopters (the two intro. ones). I got the downloadable ones and have watched 'em and have learned a lot. I also recv'd free intro videos from each company and have watched them which were for fixed wing.

I know people on here swear by either one or both of these companies. I'm assuming these courses are not a substitute for actual ground school but might help in reduced cost for ground school. From the basics I've done fixed wing or rotary wing are very similar.

I have no problems with learning fixed wing mind you. And I might even go for my fixed wing one day which this money would be well spent. But those who don't want to wouldn't be so lucky. I keep reading how these courses are worth the money which is why I'm looking into them. As usual just trying to make some well informed decisions is all. Biggest bang for the buck I guess.

You won't find a better way to prep for your test then the King schools videos. I have tried both the weekend ground courses (which cram you with info 1/2 of which you wont understand) and the video learning (which lets you go back again and again to review). The thing you have to understand about these two choices are they both prepare you for the written test and "NOT" real world learning. To pass your check ride you will need ground ""training" not nessacarily a ground school for this.

I love the King videos. They can be a little campy and childish but they do a great job. They are also helpful in prep for biannual reviews. I have found myself going back to the videos over the years for review.

O.k. That I understand but it seems as though that future helicopter pilots need to spend twice as much due to everything being geared toward the fixed wing pilot. Helicopter info. is extra. Unless I'm not understanding it. Which is why I'm asking what I did. I've heard many good reviews about both programs and would love to do the same just not sure of the differences. If I can get away with just the helicopter supplements then I will but if I need to purchase both then I will.

You need the entire course plus helicopter supplements. The King Courses are great for your written. The Sports "So you want to fly helicopters" are a great addition for your collection. We've used them for all of our students and other pilots. YOU CAN"T GO WRONG WITH JOHN AND MARTHA!
