TPointer Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Here is a job description sheet from Air Logistics home page. If a pilot meets the minimum job description requirements based on this sheet, will Air Logistics hire him or her as PIC or Captain? Or, does the pilot have to fly as SIC? Also, what is the exact contract pay for helicopter pilots at Air Logistics? If there are any pilots here working for Air Logistics, I would appreciate any advice or information that you can give me. Thanks for your time. Jeff Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 You obviously got that off their website. On the job ads they put on justhelicopters.com, they say that you must meet FAR 135 minimums for PIC. I meet FAR 135 PIC minimums for IFR and VFR, so I sent them a resume. When I got a reply, they said that I was not qualified for the position based on my flight times. What they don't mention in their job ads is that you have to meet FAR 135 VFR PIC minimums and all of those hours have to be in helicopters. I argued that IAW FAR 135, I meet the minimum flight hours to be qualified as PIC in helicopters, and that their ad does not accurately reflect their actual requirements. I was not interviewed and they have not changed their ads. Jeff Quote

You'd think they would be more specific and save themselves the hassle of wading through "unqualified" applicants. To answer the original question though, they are hiring for VFR PIC. Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 The FAA minimums have little to do with it, because they can set their own minimums at whatever level they want. You won't win that argument, and arguing will probably decrease your chances of being hired. The ads may be misleading, but I doubt they're illegal, and even if they are, that law won't be enforced. Anyone who believes anything on Just Helicopters deserves whatever he gets, anyway. Your only real choice is to submit your resume and hope. Quote

And when I said "argue", I was referring to an exchange of ideas more like a debate, not a verbal "gnashing of teeth". The point of my post was to share my personal experience and inform readers of Airlogs real minimums, despite what their ads say. Notwithstanding any prior conversations with Ms. Coutee (because those conversations were professional and on-the-level), I guarantee I can get hired there if they still have openings by the time I meet their requirements. Granted, it may be a while because I instruct part-time and the hours come slowly--very slowly. Jeff Quote
helonorth Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 TP,I do not work for Air Log, but yes, I do think you could get hired at 1000 PIC. You could goeither way... SIC in mediums or PIC in small ships. I'm not sure ( as I said, I do not work there ) butI suppose it's whatever they need more. Apply to all the GOM operators and you should hearsomething within a few months, maybe sooner. I really don't think one company is head andshoulders above another. As far as pay... with no offshore experience, it would probably bein that 48k range at Air Log. PM me if you have any other questions and I will be glad toanswer if I can. Cheers. Helonorth. Quote

Nobody gets hired at Air Log for SIC positions. Regardless of hours or experience everyone starts as a small ship captain and per the union contract with the company must bid into larger ships for PIC and SIC. Quote
IFLY Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Do all the larger companys have unions? I must admit I'm not a fan of unions and I would prefer not to have to join one if possible. Quote

PHI is union, yet a friend of mine got hired as a 76 SIC. I wrongly thought itwas the same at Air Log. Thanks. Helonorth. Quote
