I did a couple private add-ons, and they were in the forty to fiftyhour range. I could have gotten them to commercial standards in another 15-20 hours. Not adouble I, but I can't see an IR add-on in less than 10 hours. CFI, I suppose another 10-15.Double I? I would think more like 100 total. Quote
rick1128 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 It really depends on the person. Some of your F/W experience will help and some will hinder your progress. Dig into the FAR's and compare your logbook with what the requirements are. Then make note of what you need. You may exceed some of these areas. Trying to fly that many hours initially may be detrimental to your progress. Learning to fly the helicopter is hard work and when you get tired your learning progress will stop and even go backwards. One other suggestion. Get an instructor that you are comfortable with and is also dual rated. An instructor who understands F/W flying will better comprehend what you are seeing and understanding, than one who is not. Good luck. Quote

I would do the CFI right after the commercial and then follow up with the IR and CFII. That material is basically the same and if the examiner is willing, vbe done on the same checkride. Quote
