puddy310 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Hey Everyone Just curious to find out from any law enforcement pilots out there....I recently have reached my goal of 1000 hours as the tiring job of being an instructor..I am ready to get out into the real world of flying..I have 4 years of on the job law enforcement experience, 1000 hours, but no turbine time..Also, I am a member of the ALEA..Just curious if anyone knows who might be hiring and the best way of going back into law enforcement in my current situation..Agencies dont usually advertise openings in the airborne unit since I think they normally get their pilots from within the dept..Does anyone know how to go about getting into a department as a pilot and how many hours most places normally require for you to be qualified...??? Any help would be great... Quote

Any help would be great... Check out the Border Patrol. As long as your're under 40 yoa and have enough flight time (1500 hrs, but the website says they will waive half of it = 750 hrs) you can apply to be a CBP pilot. I think they send you through the Federal Law Enforcement Academy and then your off to your aviation unit. I've got a buddy that flies an Astar for them down in Del Rio. I would apply myself but I'm 41 now. Five0 Quote

Anyone know - Are there waivers of for CBP age 40 requirement if you're ex-military or retired military in good standing and can meet all the other requirements??? No waivers. You have to be able to work 20 years to earn a civil service retirement. "Age Requirement: In accordance with Public Law 100-238, this position is covered under law enforcement retirement provisions. Candidates must be referred for selection before reaching their 40th birthday unless they presently or have previously served in a Federal civilian law-enforcement-retirement -covered position.
