davesmith Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Hello is there anything that I can use to convert a military helicopter HGU 56 helmet to be able to use in a general aviation helicopter without replacing the speakers and mike ? Looking to use the helmet for flight training Thank Quote
67november Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 I'm sure others here might have some info, but I suggest you contact the Tech supprot staff at www.flightsuits.com they can get you steered in the right direction. Quote

You beat me too it 67, I was going to recommend the same thing. Dave, I did the same thing with a SPH4B a few years ago. I had to replace the speakers and the mic. All told it was less then $70. Highly recommend doing it though and Flightsuits.com it's the best place to go.Permison Quote
apiaguy Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 You can get a converter cord that will allow the low impedence speakers to work correctly and the dynamic mic to work as well.... it costs about $80 for the cord and has a little box on it.... It works... but I never liked it.... too quiet still...but you can get by...Aircraft spruce has them.http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpa...pter_cables.php Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 The speakers will work fine. You'll have to turn up the volume a little, but they'll still work. You do have to replace the mike, though. Carter Engineering used to sell an adapter that plugs into the mike and does the conversion, but you can get a mike just as cheaply. They aren't that expensive, and it's just not going to work otherwise. Quote

permison Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 I sent my helmet to Gibson and Barnes awhile back to get a new coiled cord put on. Be advised that if they find a crack they will make you have them fix it before they will fix any other problem. I sent mine in for the cord job and ended up with a new shell, visor, lining, ear cups, and paint job. Basically a brand new helmet. They did a nice job though. What did it run you? Quote

Paisley Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 What did it run you? It was around $300 and took about three weeks. Quote
