slick1537 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 (edited) I passed my private pilot check ride today! The examiner was quite tricky, first he did settling with power, then after I recovered and was climbing he chopped the throttle and announced engine failure. I had practiced steep approaches and 180 autos earlier in the day and it payed off I think. On to instrument! Edited April 9, 2008 by slick1537 Quote

Copterpilot213 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Congrats Pilot!!! Have fun with instrument, my advice would be to get that written done as quick as you can! Quote
Autorotator Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Good job man! Yeah hit insrument hard and get it out of the way. My advise to you would be to take the instrument written and the cfii written on the same day, if you plan on getting your cfii. Quote
helo08 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Congrats It's a great day but like others said get the instrument done and out of the way you'll be glad you did Quote
slick1537 Posted April 9, 2008 Author Posted April 9, 2008 Yea my instructor says that instrument is pretty hard and is a lot of study and book work, but I have a study habit that I think works pretty good for me so I am looking forward to getting it. One thing I noticed is that my instructor will usually pull down the rrpm if it starts to climb during auto. The examiner was having none of that, yesterday man hes like watch your rpms, the needle was like right below the red line, a millisecond from disaster. All is well though. Quote

An edited post you made mid March on your instructor's actions after announcing an engine failure; "Hey guys, .... My instructor already has the collective down before I even realize what is going on. .... " It would drive me crazy as a student if my instructor were this 'helpful' instead of hollering at me to fix the problem causing the RRPM to change (airspeed) after the first collective 'check' required because of all the weight in the aircraft. slick1537 Posted April 9, 2008 Author Posted April 9, 2008 Actually I worked with my instructor on simulated engine failures and I think they improved alot. Although my entry on the check ride was real sloppy it must have sufficed because I passed. Quote
