eagle5 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 If a late night football game puts a TFR over my airport when the tower is closed, do I have to call ATC to come in for pattern work, or can I just use the CTAF? 1 Quote
Azhigher Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 The TFR should say whats allowed inside the TFR and who to ask to get in. Quote
aeroscout Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Generally speaking TFRs preclude pattern work at airports under the TFR footprint. Depending on the TFR, only departures and arrivals may be allowed. Quote

With regular TFRs yeah, but I've never seen one posted for sporting events, and a lot of times Flight Service doesn't even know there's a game on when I call for a briefing? Quote

Gomer Pylot Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Don't rely on FSS for essential information. Since it was privatized, you're talking to someone in a cubicle in Minnesota or someplace, hired last week, who knows little or nothing about aviation. I've stopped bothering with FSS entirely, because the service is essentially useless. I can get far more information far more easily from online sources. Back when FSS had actual people who were based locally, and knew their area, it was a great asset, but not today. 1 Quote
