Bootcamp Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I have heard we won't get BOLC dates until March or closer to graduation. I have also heard that there were only 115 aviation slots given out. This is all hearsay so don't put too much stock into this. If you commissioned thru the academy, expect a BOLC date in the July/August/September time frame. If you commissioned thru ROTC (in May), expect a September/October/November BOLC date. For OCS graduates - I think OCS 2LTs are sprinkled throughout the entire year. The bubbles are much smaller now. I think it's around two weeks from your sign-in date until first day of BOLC and then about two weeks between each course. (Except for CH-47F aviators - one of my friends has been waiting since July for his CH-47F course and probably won't start until January.) If you're spending the summer doing nothing else - I suggest PTing, 5/9 flashcards, the Helicopter Flying Handbook, and travel (you won't get much time to leave here when you're a student). 1 Quote
Tradewinds Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Both of my sons branched AD Aviation through ROTC, one in 2012 and the younger one just branched this year. My older son left for Ft. Rucker 12 days after graduation in May. There were several ROTC grads that started that early and kept coming through the summer. Most West Point grads seemed to take advantage of the leave the receive when they graduate and didn't start showing up to Rucker until July at the earliest. They use the OML standings to help determine when you report, the higher you were on the OML the chances are better you will report earlier. NG Aviation tends to have a longer wait on average. Older son did not find out his date and receive orders until about March sometime. Even then the date changes three times. Not sure if they are doing it differently this year or not. 1 Quote
Tradewinds Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I've heard there are a lot of Aviation branched cadets this year. Any one have any idea why? West Point - 88ROTC - 133 They had announced earlier this Fall that the AD Aviation slots for ROTC would be 115, the Branching results the PMS's showed the cadets now show that that number was increased to 133. This is still below the number of AD Aviation slots given over the past few years. 1 Quote
walkerman180 Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Wow you guys/gals are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks a bunch! I was AD Infantry for 3 years prior to going back to school and you couldn't torture someone into telling you what to expect for schools/training when you're a grunt. I like this much better haha.
