Jay924 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Our unit has been fielded some Aircrew Laser Pointers and I was curious if any other units have got to play with them. If so, would anyone be willing to share their SOP? Quote
SBuzzkill Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) What sort of info are you looking for? SOP for using those shouldn't be much different than any other laser pointer. Edited September 3, 2014 by SBuzzkill Quote
brackac Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Are you talking in regards to identifying TGT's, friendly locations, enemy locations, etc etc etc? Roping, snake, etc? Quote
vani58 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Sure: Point, use. Also, in almost a year, I've handed out exactly one for anyone to use. Not exactly high-demand items. Quote

Roping, snake, etc?The laser pointers are LA-8/P. They are I/R and used for target or threat location identification. The laser is a class 1 laser for CONES use and can be changed to class 3 for OCONUS. Quote

Hotdogs Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 What's the useful distance on those LA-8Ps? .5-1km? Quote
Jay924 Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 According to the operators manual, it's capable of using it in excess of 3 km. This is not a standard laser pointer. It is a class 3 infrared laser and can burn skin at ranges closer than 125 meters and burn eyes closer then 750 meters. We have since made our own Standard Operating Procedure for this device. Quote
